Carey was almost 5'10 tall before she stepped up to the high-end model. Her popularity with American fashion designers Calvin Klein or Ralph Lauren was very high. Her father, an accomplished scientist who won the Rocky Mountain Association of Geologists' 1979 Scientist of the Year award is a highly respected geologist. Carey was educated across the globe as a consequence of her father's career. Modeling began part time when she was a student at university at the University of Colorado and caught the attention of an agent from the Ford model Agency in New York. She briefly lived and studied in Paris prior to returning to New York. Her modeling and academic career rocketed and she appeared on Glamour's, Vogue's and a variety of other magazines' covers. When she was modeling and continued to pursue her studies at a full-time level for a literary major within New York University. After graduation, in New York she began to pursue acting. In 1986, she got her first acting role as a small part in Club Paradise, with Robin Williams. In her spare time, she enjoys ski, white-water rafting wind-surfing and climbing rocks.
